Military Not Under Turkish Government Control

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has allegedly admitted to being unable to control Turkish military flights that frequently caused tension in the Aegean region between neighbors Turkey and Greece, according to a leaked U.S. Embassy cable from 2004. (click here)
OK, this is not really news, but the fact that it’s in writing is interesting, especially given the incursion of eight Turkish F-16s into what Greeks claimed was their airspace during Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou’s visit to Turkey on a peace mission two weeks ago. (click here)
You ought to point out that this occurred what seems like an aeon ago, in 2004.
