Military Not Under Turkish Government Control

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo─čan has allegedly admitted to being unable to control Turkish military flights that frequently caused tension in the Aegean region between neighbors Turkey and Greece, according to a leaked U.S. Embassy cable from 2004. (click here)

OK, this is not really news, but the fact that it’s in writing is interesting, especially given the incursion of eight Turkish F-16s into what Greeks claimed was their airspace during Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou’s visit to Turkey on a peace mission two weeks ago. (click here)
