What Josephine Saw

There’s a new exhibit in Istanbul of Josephine Powell‘s remarkable photographs of Anatolian nomadic life and nomadic weaving culture. (see announcement below.) Powell died in 2007 at the age of 87 at her Istanbul home.

Andrew Finkel wrote an essay about her life here and Cornucopia magazine’s latest issue (here) has Powell on the cover and reproduces many of her wonderful photographs, such as the one below, of a newly married woman displaying her gold jewelry and hennaed hands in Suleymankoy in 1985.
